Half Indian and half Danish, Ram’s diverse roots and classical training have assured him a unique voice. In the 80's he was the drummer for the cult hardcore band, Hazy Azure and since then his comprehensive musical career has branched out in a variety of directions, including work as a studio producer, composer, arranger, performer and as the founder of Semprini Records and Signed By Force
Following his studies in classical composition and orchestration, orchestral percussion, electro-acoustic tape music, jazz arrangement, vibraphone performance, as well as ethnomusicology, Borcar went on to release two critically acclaimed albums under the moniker Ramasutra - “The East Infection” and “El Pipo Del Taxi”. Both albums pushed the boundaries of electronic music using a skillful blend of acoustic instruments, exotic orchestrations and accomplished studio production.
Under his own name, Borcar released the original soundtrack to the award-winning documentary “Regular Or Super”, a film on the works of German architect Mies van der Rohe. The score and its soundtrack album “Steel And Glass” gained notoriety amongst both film and music critics alike. Proving his dedication to creating effective recording through detailed production techniques, the score was not only written in the style to reflect the era, but was also recorded exclusively with vintage microphones and recording gear thus creating the desired 1950’s Blue Note Records retro sound.
Ram's extensive knowledge of musical genres has enabled him to not only compose a remarkable variety of work but to combine several different styles, creating something altogether new. His diverse film scores have included atonal writing for orchestra (“Jaloux”), middle eastern string ensembles (“Operation Casablanca”), jazz big band (“Regular Or Super” & “Karsh Is History”), post rock guitar sound-scapes (“Between Wind And Water”), Latin and Brazilian percussion groups (“Tout Le Monde En Parle”), minimalist keyboard works (“Familia”), funky blaxploitation parodies (“Camping Sauvage”), surreal folk music (Nicolas Roeg's “Puffball”), electronic music (“Web Dreams”), oriental instruments (“Comme Par Magie”) and Bollywood themes (“Bombay Calling” & Cadbury’s “Cara Sutra” TV ad).
While Ram continues his work as a film composer, he remains dedicated to releasing new music from international artists as well as reissues of lost underground gems.
